What is Dance Marathon?
In 1991, students at Indiana University founded Dance Marathon in the memory of Ryan White, a fellow student who passed away from HIV/AIDS. The Program now spans North America benefitting hundreds of hospitals and countless kids in the United States and Canada. Dance Marathons have become a tradition on campus and in their community.
Each Dance Marathon organization is entirely student run and 100% of all funds raised goes directly to the school's local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. Last year alone (2015), Miracle Network Dance Marathons raised more than $26 million.
Miracle Network Dance Marathon is a movement activating university students across North America. Students involved in planning the Dance Marathon event spend a year gaining leadership, teamwork and nonprofit business experience while raising funds and interacting with children's hospital patients and families. These students will spend the year raising awareness and funds with the year culminating at their 6 hour Dance Marathon event where students will stay on their feet through dancing, games and entertainment. These students symbolically stand in support of children served by their local children's hospital.
