HICKORY, N.C. – The Augusta University baseball team headed to Hickory, N.C. for a midweek non-conference game against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears and dropped a 15-4 contest at Bears Field.
Augusta (9-22) scored first, but Lenoir-Rhyne (21-12) battled back with the bats and outhit the Jaguars 16-6.
Jags junior Zack Goble ripped a two-RBI single to left field in the first inning to score juniors Devin Bilardello and Harrison Moore for a quick 2-0 lead. Lenoir-Rhyne rallied in its first at bat and got three straight hits and a hit-by-pitch to steal a 5-2 lead. An Augusta infield error gave LRU two more in the second and they blew it open form there.
Senior Jordan Kelly (1-1) made his first start of the season for the Jaguars and gave up four hits for five runs, but only two were earned. AU used five arms in relief.
Bilardello enjoyed a 3-for-5 day with a run and RBI, and Gobles was 1-for-2 with two RBI for Augusta.
AU plays a Peach Belt Conference series at Lander University March 30-31 in Greenwood, S.C.
