INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Committee announced today the field of 48 teams for the 2001 Division II Men's Basketball Championship. Twenty conferences have been awarded automatic qualification. The remaining 28 teams were selected at-large by the committee.

Augusta State Wins Peach Belt Tournament Title
GREENWOOD, S.C. – Augusta State won its first ever Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship with 60-46 victory over regular season champion Armstrong Atlantic State in a battle of the top two seeds Saturday at Lander’s Horne Arena. With the victory, Augusta State (20-9) earns its first bid to the NCAA Tournament since 1978.

ASU Defeats USC Aiken in PBC Semifinals
GREENWOOD, S.C. - Augusta State University shot 53% (26-49) from the floor, including 60% (15-25) in the second half to rally for a 79-73 victory over USC Aiken in the semifinals of the Men’s Peach Belt Conference Tournament Friday night at Lander’s Horne Arena. Augusta State (19-9), the top seed from the PBC North Division, advances Saturday’s championship game against the winner of the Armstrong Atlantic State/Columbus State game.

ASU Wraps North Division Top-Seed With 83-65 Win Over Francis Marion
Florence, SC -- Augusta State University’s men’s basketball team wrapped up its third consecutive North Division Championship on Saturday with an 83-65 win over Francis Marion University. ASU and Lander both finished atop the PBC North Division with identical 11-5 league records. The Jaguars win the tiebreaker and thus the division’s top seed with an 8-2 divisional record, while Lander finished with a 7-3 mark.

With the win, and USC Aiken’s loss to USC Spartanburg, the Jaguars move back into a first place tie with the Pacers in the Peach Belt North Division.
