ASU Back In Top Five

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Augusta State men's basketball squad jumped three spots Tuesday in the national rankings, improving to No. 4 in the eighth NABC poll of the regular season.

With the ranking, ASU has now appeared in the top 10 of the national poll for a school-record 12 consecutive weeks, dating back to last season, and has been ranked among the top 25 for a school-record 28 consecutive weeks, dating back to the 2006-07 campaign. ASU has been ranked among the top five six times in school history, including five weeks this season.

The Jags posted a 2-1 record last week, claiming a 78-60 victory at Lander on Wednesday, Jan. 14 and a 107-100 double overtime win at North Georgia last Saturday. ASU's 78-74 loss at 10th-ranked USC Aiken on Monday, Jan. 19 was not reflected in the voting for the poll.

ASU earned the highest ranking in school history on Tuesday, Dec. 9 when the Jags moved up to No. 3 in the nation.

The last two undefeated teams in NCAA Division II – Findlay and LIU-C.W. Post – held the top two spots. Findlay (14-0) is the nation's No. 1-ranked team for the eighth consecutive week, while the Pioneers (12-0) are at their highest point ever in the national rankings in the second position.

Central Oklahoma (15-2) moved up one spot to third this week, while Augusta State (12-2) checks in at No. 4. BYU-Hawaii (11-1) rounds out the top five after going over the century mark in both of its Pacific West Conference wins last week.

Southwest Baptist fell to sixth after a loss at Nebraska-Omaha, while Alderson-Broaddus moved up eight spots to No. 7 after a number of ranked teams suffered losses in the last seven days. Gannon slipped from sixth to eighth, while last week's No. 2-ranked team, Bellarmine, fell to ninth after seeing its unbeaten run end with two road losses. USC Aiken is 10th.

The second 10 is headed by Catawba, followed by Christian Brothers, Stonehill, Northern Kentucky and Minnesota State, while the 16-through-20 spots are held by Northern State, Arkansas Tech, Armstrong Atlantic State, Arkansas-Monticello and Claflin.

The next poll will be released on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
