Jags Break 100 Points In Exhibition Win Over Fort Gordon

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta Jaguars played their first and only exhibition match of the 2014-15 season against Fort Gordon on Sunday at Christenberry Fieldhouse in Augusta, Ga., winning 111-to-67 led by Devonte Thomas' nine three-pointers.

The Jaguars took an early lead and never looked back, outscoring Fort Gordon 73-23 in the first half. Senior Devonte Thomas led the way for the Jaguars scoring 31 points while shooting 75 percent from three-point land. Jaguar newcomer Keith Crump had 17 points, eight boards and four steals, while Devonte Wright-Nelson had 10 points eight rebounds and two steals.

The Jaguars capitalized off a handful of Fort Gordon turnovers, turning that into 32 points. The bench also out-scored Fort Gordon's bench 40-to-28. The Jaguars made 11 threes in the first half to Fort Gordon's two.

GRU eclipsed the 100 point mark when defending Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year, Keshun Sherrill, dealt an alley-oop pass to Michal Graham for a two-handed slam. GRU cruised to 111 points and held onto the ball as the clock expired.

Fort Gordon was led by J. Coefield who had 19 points six rebounds and one steal, A Gittens added 15 of points of his own with five rebounds and one block.

The Jaguars officially kick off their season on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14-15.  The new slate begins with the PBC-SAC Challenge from at home in Christenberry Fieldhouse sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings. Clayton State and the Jags will represent the Peach Belt and Brevard College and Anderson will represent the South Atlantic Conference. On Friday, Nov. 14, GRU Augusta will host Clayton vs. Brevard at 5:30 p.m., before playing Anderson that night at 7:30 p.m. Anderson faces Clayton in the first game on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 3:00 p.m. and the Jags host Brevard at 5:00 p.m. to complete the two-day event.
