AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's basketball team hosted the Georgia College Bobcats on Saturday afternoon for the 2018 Homecoming game and dropped a tight 61-59 battle in Christenberry Fieldhouse. Both games this season between the Jaguars and Bobcats have been decided by two points or less.
Augusta is now 13-10 on the season and 10-7 in the PBC, while the Bobcats are now 11-12 and 7-10 in the league.

Junior Aaron Byrd paced the Jags with 17 points, while senior Tamyrik Fields scored 14 and sophomore Mikkel Kolstad 11 off the bench. AU and GC matched 31-all rebounds, but the Bobcats got to the free-throw line six more times than the Jags.
AU led by 10 with 6:18 to go in the first half, after Byrd buried a three pointer. The Bobcats brought it back with back-to-back treys and trailed by one with under five minutes to go. GC took its first lead at 25-24 with 4:17 left in the first half and took it into halftime. Kolstad hit two straight three pointers at the end of the half as Augusta trailed 32-30 at the break.
GC used an 18-0 run in the first half to take over the game, but the Jags never stopped fighting and two straight treys from Shawn Moss put Augusta back up 44-43. Augusta was down by seven with five minutes left in the competition and trailed by one with a minute counting down. Kolstad got to the free-throw line and hit both to tie the game at 59-all, but Brice Booker drove the floor and hit a layup with three seconds left to take a 61-59.
The game had five lead changes and the score was tied twice, but the Bobcats came out on top.
The Jaguars host Clayton State on Monday, Feb. 12 for a 7:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference game in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
