AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State men’s golf coach Josh Gregory announced Saturday the first addition to the Jaguar program for the 2009-10 season.

Gregory confirmed the transfer of Patrick Reed, who qualified for three of four events during the Fall, 2008 season for the University of Georgia. In nine rounds, he posted a 74.56 stroke average and carded a low-round of even-par 70. His best finish was a tie for 21st in the Brickyard Collegiate Championship in Macon, Ga., last October.

Reed is No. 40 in the world amateur rankings, including 13th among U.S. amateurs, according to Golfweek magazine.

“We’re very excited about Patrick joining our program,” Gregory said. “He is one of the top amateurs in the U.S. and was the No. 1 ranked junior in the nation. There is no doubt he will make an immediate impact with our program. He has the ability to win and compete at the highest level. I look forward to coaching him and him being an incredible asset to our program over the next three years.”

Reed enjoyed a highly-decorated junior career, earning Rolex AJGA All-America honors in 2005, 2006 and 2007. He advanced to the semifinals of the 2008 U.S. Amateur last summer, falling one win shy of a Masters Tournament berth. He suffered a 3 & 2 loss to eventual U.S. Amateur Champion Danny Lee – the top-ranked amateur in the world -- last August at Pinehurst No. 2.

A graduate of University High School in Baton Rouge, La., Reed captured the 2006 Junior British Open and also qualified for the U.S. Amateur in 2007. He led University High to state championships in both 2006 and 2007 and won state medalist honors in 2007 as well.

Reed, who will have three years of eligibility remaining, recently tied for fifth in the Terra Cotta Invitational at Naples National Golf Club in Naples, Fla.

The Jags close out their regular-season schedule this weekend in the Cavalier Classic at Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville, Va.
