ASU Wraps Up Southeast Regional

SORRENTO, Fla. -- Augusta State turned in its best round of the NCAA Southeast Regional on Saturday at Red Tail Golf Club.

Paced by freshman Taylor Floyd, the Jaguars posted a five-under 279 in the final round and finished with a three-day total of two-over 854 and an 11th-place showing in the 14-team field. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams advance to the NCAA Championships, slated for May 26-30 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio and hosted by the University of Toledo.

Freshman Taylor Floyd booked the Jags’ best effort of the day -- a four-under 67 -- and tied for 27th at two-under 211. Sophomore Henrik Norlander recorded ASU’s best finish, tying for 23rd at three-under 210 following a final-round, even-par 71. Sophomore Carter Newman carded a one-under 70 and moved up into a tie for 49th. Junior Jake Amos signed for a even-par 71 and was 54th, while senior Janne Kaske managed a two-over 73 and tied for 55th.

Regional host Central Florida cruised to an 11-shot victory over Georgia, Arizona and South Carolina, while Iowa claimed the fifth and final qualifying spot for the NCAA Championships.

Arizona’s Tarquin McManus claimed medalist honors at 15-under 198, two strokes better than Central Florida’s Brad Schneider, who closed with a 63. UCF teammate Blayne Barber fired a 62 and took third. Charlotte’s Corey Nagy was fourth and Georgia Southern’s Spencer Fulford and Florida State’s Brooks Koepka tied for fifth.

The regional, which marked the last collegiate event for senior Janne Kaske, capped the 2008-09 season for ASU. The Jags return four starters and eight letterwinners from this season’s squad that won two events, had two medalists (Kaske and Floyd) and was ranked as high as No. 25 in the nation.
