ASU's Gregory To Represent State

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State’s Josh Gregory was recently selected to compete in the Southeastern Challenge Match by the GSGA (Georgia State Golf Association).

Gregory, in his seventh season as the Jaguars' Director of Golf and Head Men’s Golf Coach, will represent the state of Georgia in the 12th playing of the Southeast Challenge Match. Slated for October 18-19 at Kiva Dunes in Gulf Shores, Ala., the matches are a two-day event featuring teams from Georgia, Florida and Alabama.

Held in even-numbered years, the Southeastern Challenge Match pits 12-man teams comprised of eight mid-amateurs and four seniors. The format consists of three-rounds of match play: one round of four-ball match play, one round of foursomes (alternate shot), and one round of three-ball match play.

“When I received the invitation, I couldn’t say yes to the GSGA fast enough,” Gregory said. “Being able to represent the state where you live and call home is a big honor and will be a terrific experience. The team format is something I’m used to and really excited to be a part of.”

Gregory, the No. 3-ranked amateur in the state of Georgia, enjoyed an excellent summer season on the course. He finished third in the Palmetto Amateur in Aiken, S.C., and was fourth in the Georgia State Amateur. He narrowly missed playing his way into the U.S. Open, losing in a playoff in the U.S. Open sectional qualifier. Most recently, Gregory advanced to the round of the 16 in the U.S. Mid-Amateur at Milwaukee Country Club in Milwaukee, Wis.
