ASU Summer Golf Notebook No. 13

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Three former Augusta State standouts advanced to the second stage of the European Tour’s qualifying tournament Friday at Oxfordshire Golf Club in Thame, England.

Former Jaguar All-Americans Jamie Elson and Scott Jamieson tied for fourth place while Wallace Booth finished in a tie for 23rd. Elson, who owned the first-round lead after a seven-under 65, posted a final round of six-under 66 and a 72-hole total of 13-under 275 (65-73-71-66). Jamieson, who earned All-American honors as a senior in 2005, joined Elson in a tie for fourth with rounds of 68-67-69-71. Wallace Booth, who wrapped up his playing career in 2007, carded a three-under 69 and tied for 23rd at six-under 282 (68-71-74-69).

The top 30 players in the 130-player field advance to the second stage of qualifying school.

Former Augusta State standout Keith Guest made his professional debut Thursday in the Hooters Tour’s Kandy Waters Memorial Classic at Bartram Trail Golf Club in Evans, Ga.

The assistant men’s golf coach at Augusta State, Guest recorded a two-under 68 in his first round as a professional Thursday and followed that effort with a two-over 72 on Friday. Although he failed to make the cut (the cut fell at three-under 137), two other former Jags made it to the weekend.

Major Manning, coming off his first professional victory last weekend, shot an even-par 70 and is tied for 35th at four-under 136 (66-70). Thomas Hagler, who played two seasons at ASU, is tied for fifth place at eight-under 132 (68-65). Tarik Can, who spent three seasons on the ASU golf team after transferring from Texas, managed rounds of 70 and 72 and missed the cut at two-over 142.
