Jaguars Rally For Runnerup Finish

SABOT, Va. -- Augusta State fired the low round of the day Tuesday and jumped five spots into second place in the third and final round of the VCU Shootout at Hermitage Country Club.

The Jaguars, who began the day in seventh place and seven shots back of second-place Virginia, carded a nine-under 275 and overtook Virginia, Virginia Tech, Iowa and Wichita State. ASU finished in a tie with host Virginia Commonwealth at 11-under 841.

The Jags have now shot under par in five of their first six rounds of the season. Over their first two events, the Jags are a combined 42-under par.

Sophomore Henrik Norlander again paced ASU, tying for third place individually after a four-under 67 gave him a three-round total of 11-under 202 (65-70-67).

Junior Jake Amos and senior Janne Kaske recorded top-10 finishes as well. Amos took ninth place at three-under 210 (72-69-69) while Kaske notched a career-best three-under 68 and tallied the best finish of his career with a tie for 10th at two-under 211 (73-70-68).

Redshirt freshman Brendan Gillins contributed with a one-under 70 and tied for 51st at seven-under 220 (76-73-70) while sophomore Jacob Carlsson tied for 59th at nine-over 222 (74-74-74).

Wake Forest’s Brendan Gielow and Wichita State’s Dustin Garza tied for medalist at 12-under 201. Norlander and Wake’s Dustin Groves tied for third with VCU’s Lanto Griffin.

ASU returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 11 in Macon, Ga., at the Brickyard Intercollegiate.
