ASU Duo Shines At World Amateur

ADELAIDE, Australia. -- Former Augusta State standout Wallace Booth and current Jaguar sophomore Henrik Norlander continued their strong play Saturday in the third round of the World Amateur Team Championship.

Booth carded a team-best, three-under 69 at the par-72, 6,930-yard The Grange Golf Club to propel Scotland past the United States and into the team lead by four shots. Norlander turned in a one-under 70 and helped Sweden move into third place with the second-best round of the day and pull within four shots of the American squad. The U.S. has enjoyed more success than any other country in tournament history, collecting 13 victories.

At 11-under 206, Booth (70-67-69) trails Rickie Fowler (68-67-70) of the U.S. by a single stroke in the race for medalist honors. Norlander is part of a six-way tie for ninth at four-under 213, eight shots off the pace.

New Zealand, behind the play of U.S. Amateur Champion Danny Lee, is fourth while Australia rounds out the top five.

On Friday, Booth fired a six-under 67 Friday and Norlander carded a five-under 68 at the par-73, 7,215-yard Royal Adelaide Golf Club to move into the top 10 in the individual standings.

Booth’s effort helped push his native Scotland, which played as a part of Great Britain and Ireland until 2002, into a share of the lead with the United States of America at 17-under-par. Norlander’s round sparked his home country of Sweden into fourth place halfway through the event at eight-under-par.

In the World Amateur, the team’s two best individual scores count.
