Gregory Helps Lead Georgia To Victory

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- Augusta State head men’s golf coach Josh Gregory split a pair of matches Sunday in the second day of the Southeastern Challenge Match at Kiva Dunes Golf Course.

Gregory posted a 1-1 record and helped lead Team Georgia to a 26.5 to 21.5 victory over Alabama and a 26.5 to 15 win over Florida. Georgia went into Sunday’s play with a just a half-a-point lead over Alabama and a four-point edge over Florida.

In his seventh season as ASU’s Director of Golf and Head Men’s Golf Coach, Gregory never trailed in his match with Alabama’s Bart Barnes en route to a 2-up victory. Gregory won the first hole of the match, and after Barnes won the second to even the match, Gregory bounced back with wins on the next two holes and led the rest of the way.

The Southeastern Challenge Match is a biennial competition among male amateur golfers representing the states of Alabama, Florida and Georgia. The teams consist of eight mid-amateur and four senior golfers selected by their respective golf association. The host site rotates among the three states.

The Southeast Challenge Match debuted at Lake Nona Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, in 1989 as an event intended to promote goodwill and competition between the best amateur players, playing as a team, from Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

With the victory, Georgia moved ahead in the all-time series with six wins to five for Florida, while Alabama owns a single win.
