Norlander Cards Top 10 In Texas

EL PASO, Texas -- Augusta State’s Henrik Norlander posted a three-under 68 Tuesday in the third and final round of the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic.

A sophomore from Danderyd, Sweden, Norlander finished alone in ninth place at one-under 212 (72-72-68). He began the final round tied for 11th after opening with a pair of one-over 72’s Monday.

The tournament, in its 34th year of existence, consisted of a field of 27 returning All-Americans from last season. Norlander became the first player in school history to earn All-America honors as a freshman. He was a GCAA/PING third-team All-America selection and an honorable mention All-American selection by Golfweek magazine.

Marquette’s Mike Van Sickle, who began the final round tied with Norlander, sank a seven-foot birdie on the sixth playoff hole to capture the title over Oklahoma State’s Trent Leon. Van Sickle posted an eight-under 63, one shot off the tournament record.

Each university represented in the tournament will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Over the past 33 years, the Sun Bowl Association has donated over $625,000 to collegiate golf through this scholarship program.
