Augusta Increases Lead After 36 Holes At MEAC Championship

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Augusta University men's golf team increased its lead by seven strokes in day two of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Golf Championship. Augusta leads the seven-team field 22-under par at Crosswinds Golf Club.

 
 

The two-time defending MEAC champion also has five of the top six spots on the individual leaderboard. The Jags led by 15 strokes after day one action. In the second round, AU senior Emmanuel Kountakis carded his career-low round with a 66 (-6) and leads the event 9-under par.

 

Four of the five Jaguars shot under par. Junior Broc Everett is three shots behind Kountakis in second place at 6-under after shooting a round-two 71 (-1). Senior Jake Marriott sits third overall (-4) with a 69 (-3) in his second day, freshman Gustav Andersson is tied for fourth (-3), and senior Viktor Edin is in sixth 1-under par.

 

Bethune-Cookman sits in second in the team standings with a 3-under 577 (292-285), while North Carolina Central (298-307=605) sits in third.

 

Savannah State (300-306=606) sits in fourth after two rounds, while Hampton (302-310=612), Florida A&M (314-304=618) and Maryland Eastern Shore (331-326=657) round out the field.

 

Friday's final round will begin with the first tee time at 8 a.m. Live scoring will again be available through GolfStat.

 
 

The winner of the conference tourney receives an automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Division I men's golf selection show will air on Thursday, May 4 at 12:00 p.m. on Golf Channel.
