Augusta Men’s Golf Gains Four Freshmen In Early Signing Period

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University Director of Golf and head men's golf coach Jack O'Keefe announced the program's four-member early signing class for the 2017-18 season. The Jaguars gained a quartet of freshmen in Olof Gunnarsson, Laken Hinton, Alex Shead, and Constantin Unger. All three signed National Letters (NLI) of Intent during the early signing period and are set to join the team next season.

Olof Gunnarsson attends the Filbornaskolan National School of Golf in Helsingborg, Sweden where he garnered four wins, three runner-ups, and a pair of third-place finishes in the 2015-16 season. He posted a 73.60 scoring average for play in 2016 and his low round was a 65 (-7) to win the Gränna Open. Gunnarsson was named the Junior Player of the Year in 2016 and 2015 for Landeryds Golf Club.

 

Laken Hinton is an incoming freshman from Edmond, Okla., where he attends Edmond North High School with plans to graduate in 2017. Hinton lettered in all four years of golf at ENHS and was a 2016 Oklahoma State Champion. He plans on studying business at Augusta University.

 

Alex Shead was born right here in Augusta, Ga., and grew up in Appling, Ga. Home schooled for his high school education, Shead competed around the nation in golf and is ranked top 100 on the Junior Golf Scoreboard. He won the 2016 AJGA EZGO Vaughn Taylor Championship and was a 2016 NCHGC National Champion. He plans to study computer science at AU.

 

Constantin Unger will join the Jags from Germany where he attended Leibniz-Gymnasium Östringen in Östringen, Germany for two years. Unger competed with the Golfclub Sankt Leon-Rot in Baden-Württemberg, Germany and logged 33 rounds in 2016 with an average score of 70.96. Unger was a Baden-Württemberg state campion in 2016 and a U18 German team champion in 2015.
