SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Augusta University men's golf team returned to Crosswinds Golf Club on Monday for the first time since winning their third-straight conference championship and are leading the Savannah State Fall Tiger Invitational by 31 strokes. Augusta is 18 shots under par after 36 holes of play in their fifth tournament of the fall season.
Seven total teams from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) are competing on the par-72, 6,800-yard course. The six full members of the MEAC are Bethune-Cookman University, North Carolina Central University, Florida A&M University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, North Carolina A&T State University and host Savannah State. Augusta is an associate member of the MEAC after joining in 2014.
In round one Augusta shot 5-under par (283) and broke away from the field with a 275 (-13) in round two. All five starting Jaguars carded their low round of the season in day one.
Senior Broc Everett followed up a 70 (-2), with a tourney-best 66 (-66) in round two – two strokes shy of his career low score. He leads the 41-man field 8-under par and three strokes ahead of Augusta freshman Laken Hinton. Hinton's previous low round was 73 entering the day and he shot 71, 68 to sit second overall (-5).
Freshman Alex Shead is tied for third (-3) with a 71 and 70, sophomore Gustav Andersson shot a pair of 71s and is fifth (-2), while rookie Olof Gunnarsson's 71, 72 spotted him seventh on the leaderboar.d
Teams play round three of the Tiger Invitational on Halloween – teeing off Tuesday, Oct. 31 with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
