Jaguars Break Free From Field To Lead MEAC After 36 Holes

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Augusta University men's golf team leads the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship by 23 strokes through two rounds at Crosswinds Golf Club. Augusta shot an even-par 288 on Friday to improve by four strokes from day one.

 

 

All five Jaguars are in the top 10 on the leaderboard. Augusta freshman Alex Shead fired a 67 (-5) in round two to take first place on the individual leaderboard at 4-under-par. Shead's 67 was his third this season and matches the lowest of his career. Senior Broc Everett shot 73 and is tied for second at 1-over-par.

 

Augusta freshman Laken Hinton shot his second 73 (+1) of the tournament and is in fourth place (+2), while sophomore Gustav Andersson holds on to eighth (+6) and freshman Olof Gunnarsson 10th (+8).

 

The Jaguars lead the tournament, followed by Bethune-Cookman in second (+27), Florida A&M in third (+31), host Savannah State in fourth (+46), North Carolina Central fifth (+63), Maryland Eastern Shore sixth (+73), Hampton seventh (+84), and North Carolina A&T eighth (+105). Augusta is looking for its fourth consecutive conference title.

 

The championship features three-time defending champion Augusta University, along with Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Hampton, Maryland Eastern Shore, North Carolina A&T State, North Carolina Central and Savannah State. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Div. I Men's Golf Championship. The NCAA Div. I Men's Golf Selection Show will air on Wednesday, May 2 at 5:30 p.m. on Golf Channel.
