Jaguar Duo Named To All-Academic Team

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State's Marina Ferreira and Henrique Boturao were recently recognized for their academic excellence when they were named to the Peach Belt Conference Women's and Men's Tennis All-Academic teams.

A sophomore management major from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Ferreira posted a 3.76 GPA while accumulating a 13-8 record at No. 2 singles and a 15-8 mark at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. She helped ASU reach its seventh NCAA Regional in the last 12 seasons.

Boturao was a key contributor for a Jaguar men's tennis squad that made its eighth NCAA Regional appearance in the last 12 seasons and its sixth in the last seven years. He tallied an 11-9 singles record and a 14-9 mark in doubles. The junior finance major from Santos, Brazil registered a 3.60 GPA

The teams are part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
