AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference released the 2018 men's tennis preseason All-Conference team and Augusta University junior Patrick Oliveira was named to the list for the second time in his career.
As selected by the league's head coaches, the PBC preseason team has six players from five different PBC institutions. Columbus State was the only school with two selections while Augusta, Flagler, Lander and North Georgia had one each. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Augusta's Patrick Oliveira is ranked No. 10 in the nation in the ITA preseason poll. A junior from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he was named an All-American in 2017 following a stellar sophomore season. He was a first team Peach Belt All-Conference and PBC All-Academic selection, while compiling a 14-3 overall record at No. 1 singles to lead the Jaguars in wins and winning percentage. He finished the season ranked No. 20 in the nation for singles play. Oliveira ended the 2017 season on an 8-2 run at No. 1 singles and went 7-3 in PBC play.
The 2018 men's tennis season begins on Thursday, Feb. 1. The Augusta Jaguars host Johnson C. Smith on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 12:00 p.m.
The 2018 PBC Tournament will return to the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center in Florence, S.C., April 20-22. The event will be hosted by Francis Marion University.
