PEMBROKE, N.C. – Competing in their second meet of the 2017 season, the Augusta University men's outdoor track and field team placed third out of eight teams in the Braves Classic Friday at the Dick & Lenore Taylor Track.
Host UNC Pembroke won their event, while Lenoir-Rhyne took second, Augusta third, Coker fourth, St. Andrews fifth, Methodist sixth, Southern Virginia seventh, and Francis Marion eighth.
Kudakwashe Nyahuma led AU in the 100 meter dash and took second in 10.95. Nyahuma also placed fifth in the 200 meter dash in 22.85m. Teammate Justin Harrison notched seventh in the 100m dash in 11.28 and in the 400 meter dash, Andrew Folk fought for fourth place in 50.92 and Shane Rowand took seventh in 52.20.
The Jags got a second-place finish in the javelin throw with Taylor Coxwell leading the team. Daniel Langston took third, Ryan White fifth, and Austin Wofford eighth in the javelin. Langston carded fifth as well in the shot put with a toss of 12.82m.
In the 110 meter hurdles, Coxwell crossed the line in 16.15 to take fifth. Coxwell also finished second in the javelin throw with a toss of 43.68m and Daniel Langston launched it for a reach of 42.68m to take third. Langston threw the discus 37.63m for second place overall.
Running in the distance events, Daniel Broadhead took sixth in the 1500 meter race in 4:16.87 to lead Augusta. Broadhead also led AU in the 5000 meter and carded sixth in 15:56.42.
Augusta's 4x400 meter relay of Rowand, White, Folk, and Harrison placed second overall. Augusta heads to Mount Olive, N.C., for the Mount Olive Invitational on Friday, March 17.
