Augusta Owns 13-Team Field To Win Victor Icebreaker Duals

ROME, Ga. – The Augusta University men's outdoor track and field team competed in its second meet of the season on Saturday and won the Victor Icebreaker Duals hosted by Berry College. The Jaguars bested the 13-team field by 18 points for their first invitational victory.



The men's team ran away with the competition with 103 points, followed by Shorter with 85.50 points, Lee with 83, Berry with 82, and Southern Wesleyan rounding out the top five with 62.


The Jaguars had a multitude of podium and top-five finishes across the board. Starting off strong, Senior Daniel Langston took third in the shot put, breaking the AU school record with a distance of 13.17 meters. He was followed by sophomore Tommy Woods in fourth (12.81 meters). Woods also took fourth in the discus throw and fifth in the hammer throw with distances of 34.73 meters and 39.09 meters. Langston also managed second in the javelin throw with a launch reaching 44.86 meters.


Senior Taylor Coxwell snagged second in the long jump with 6.32 meters and fellow Jaguar sophomore Andre walker, followed closely in third at 6.24 meters.


In the discus throw, sophomore Anthony Mounzer was also able to take second with 36.72 meters. Behind him, Woods finished fourth with 34.73 meters.


The men absolutely dominated the 5000-meter run, as the Jaguars swept the podium to take first, second and third. Freshman Hunter Kimball took home the title in 15:30.76. In second came Junior Noah Hulett with 15:34.95 and rounding out the top three was senior Josh Thompson in 15:34.96.


The men's 4x400 team of Joshua Hewing, Shane Rowand, Justin Harrison, and Zatrick Pearce took first with a time of 3:24.58. Hewing, Rowand, Pearce, and Sean McCreary also finished third in the 4x100 relay with 43.15.


Freshman Jacob Poston had a time of 4:08.61 to take third in the 1500-meter race and freshman Daniel Gibson was also able to get third in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 10:36.79.

Other top five finishes include: Taylor Coxwell (110-meter hurdles, fourth) and Shane Rowand (400 meter hurdles, fifth).


The men will compete next March 16-17 at the Braves Classic, hosted by UNC Pembroke, at Pembroke, N.C.
