PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Augusta University men's outdoor track and field team traveled to Pembroke, N.C. this weekend to compete in this year's Braves Track Classic. The Jaguars took third overall with 90 points, behind host UNC Pembroke with 232 points and Mount Olive with 188 in the 10-team field.
After day one of the two-day meet, the men were in third overall and trailed Mount Olive with 59 points and UNC Pembroke with 23 points. In the 5000 meters, Junior Noah Hulett finished eighth overall with a time of 15:17.38. Behind him came freshman Jacob Poston in 10th place (15:22.72), freshman Hunter Kimball in 11th (15.23.22), and senior Josh Thompson 14th (15:29.46).
On day two, in the field, sophomore Dalton Carr took second in the pole vault with a height of 3.50 meters. Senior Taylor Coxwell finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.82 meters. Coxwell would later go on to take third in the javelin throw with a distance of 44.24 meters. He was trailed by senior Daniel Langston in fifth (40.26m), junior Tommy Woods in seventh (37.51m), and sophomore Anthony Mounzer in ninth (33.18m). In the discus throw, Mounzer finished third with 39.60 meters, followed by Langston (fifth, 40.26m) and Woods (eighth, 35.17m).
Langston also managed to set a new school record in the shot put. A toss of 13.23 meters saw the senior beat the previous record of 13.17, set by Langston, himself, earlier this season in Rome, Ga.
Other top-10 finishes in the field included freshman Andre Walker (long jump, sixth) and sophomore Zach Fagan (triple jump, ninth). On the track, the 4x100m team of freshman Sean McCreary, freshman Zatrick Pearce, freshman Josh Hewing, and senior Justin Harrison snagged second with a time of 42.18
In the individual races, Josh Hewing took second in the 200 meters with a time of 21.65. He was closely followed by Justin Harrison in fourth who managed a time of 21.97. Harrison also sealed up fifth in the 100 meters in 11.02, trailed by Walker in sixth with 11.05. In the 800 meters, freshman Derrian Wright finished third with 1:57.94
The Jags had several top-10 spots on the track: Coxwell (110m hurdles, seventh) and sophomore Shane Rowand (400m hurdles, ninth).
The men's team will be on the road again next week as they get set to compete in Atlanta, Ga. in the Emory Invitational, March 23-24.
