AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Queens University of Charlotte Saturday afternoon, falling 6-0 in back-to-back meetings at Jaguar Field.
Augusta (4-12) recorded a handful of hits against Queens (18-3), but couldn't compile anything timely at the plate. The Jags play at Newberry College on Tuesday, March 6 for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader in Newberry, S.C.
GAME 1 Augusta vs. Queens
AU sophomore Courtney Browne (1-6) started her seventh game of the year and pitched her fifth complete game. She had four strikeouts and allowed eight hits for six runs (five earned).
Sophomore Lydia Hausman and senior Lindsey Stokes each had two hits for the Jaguars, while senior Ashley Boyd was 1-for-3. Queens outhit AU 8-5 in the game and the Jags stranded six runners on the base path.
The Royals roped a two-run homer in the top of the second inning, hit another in the fourth for an eventual 4-0 lead, and plated two in the seventh for a 6-0 final.
GAME 2 Augusta vs. Queens
The Jaguars put up five hits in the game, but Queens had 14. Queens scored one in their first at bat and never relinquished the lead to win 6-0.
Morgan Hunter (3-5) started game two for AU and struck out a season-high seven batters, while giving up six runs in her six innings pitched.
