AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team hosted its final regular-season games of the season on Monday against the Flagler Saints. The Jaguars dropped game one of the Peach Belt Conference doubleheader 11-1 and beat Flagler 8-0 in game two.
The double feature moved Augusta to 17-29 and 8-10 in the Peach Belt, while Flagler is now 23-22 and 7-9 in the league.
AU honored its seven seniors in a pregame ceremony prior to the first pitch. Seniors Auburn Balcorta, Ashley Boyd, Kendyl Conner, Carolyn Edwards, Marni Greenstein, Alexis Schlein, and Lindsey Stokes were recognized.
Augusta heads to Anderson University on Thursday, April 19 to take on the Trojans for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader in Anderson. S.C.
Flagler exploded for seven runs in the first inning off of AU sophomore starter Morgan Hunter (11-15). Hunter was relieved by sophomore Jada Jackson in the first inning and Jackson went on to pitch the rest of the game. She struck out five and allowed 11 hits for six runs.
Down by seven, Augusta scored on a bases-loaded walk in the third inning to make it 7-1, but Flagler fought off the Jags the rest of the way to win big. Edwards was 2-for-4 to lead AU's five-hit day, while the Saints scored 11 on 15 hits.
Augusta responded earlier in game two of the day when sophomore Lydia Hausman scored Balcorta on a first-inning sacrifice fly. Balcorta came up big in the second inning and blasted a two-run homer to score freshman Regan Norfleet, before Boyd singled to centerfield for a 4-0 lead.
Augusta tacked on four more runs to beat the Saints 8-0 in a shortened six-inning game.
Jags sophomore Courtney Browne (4-9) held the Saints scoreless on five hits to get the win on the mound. Balcorta had three RBI on a 3-for-4 performance for Augusta.
