ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Augusta University women's basketball team headed to the Florida coast on Monday night to take on Flagler College and won 85-76 in a Peach Belt Conference East Division meeting.
Augusta (12-9, 7-8 PBC) completed the regular-season sweep of the Saints (3-19, 1-14 PBC) after the Jags won 78-71 at home in Christenberry Fieldhouse Jan. 18.
Jags junior Abrea Harris went 12-for-18 from the floor and 4-for-6 from the three-point line to total 30 points and highlight all scorers. It was her career high in points for Augusta. Senior Breonna O'Conner added 24 points and senior Tavia Sykes 24 points.
Augusta put up a 53.0 field-goal percentage (35-for-66) and held Flagler to 47.5 shooting (29-for-61). Flagler hit nine threes to AU's seven, but the Jags outrebounded the Saints 36-28 and outscored them 40-28 in the paint.
Augusta bench scored 38 points to Flagler's zero. The saints were led by Bri Roberts with 23 and Maggie with Flynn with 20 points.
The Saints led to start the game until AU tied it 12-all on a Harris jumper. The game stayed a six-point contest with Flagler holding the lead. Sykes sunk a jumper and three pointer in straight possessions for the Jags to steal a 23-22 lead with 7:39 on the clock.
The Jags stayed ahead the rest of the first and led 47-35 at the pause. The advantage stayed to Augusta for the remainder of the game and they won an 85-76 road game
The Augusta University women's and men's basketball teams host the Francis Marion Patriots on Wednesday, Feb. 8 in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Lady Jags play at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m. The games serve to raise and awareness and support for the Georgia Cancer Center at Augusta University.
