Jags Drop Two To Start Season As Hosts Of PBC/Conference Carolinas Challenge

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team hosted the Peach Belt / Conference Carolinas Challenge on Friday and Saturday in Christenberry Fieldhouse. Augusta fell 89-46 to Barton College on Friday night and lost 78-68 to Southern Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.

 

 

The tournament featured Augusta, Barton College, Southern Wesleyan, and UNC Pembroke in the non-conference event. Competition commenced with UNC Pembroke taking on Southern Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. After game one on Friday, Augusta hosts its season opener against Barton at 7:30 p.m. in the 'Berry. The next day saw UNC Pembroke taking on Barton at 2:00 p.m. and the tournament concluded with Augusta battling it out with Southern Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m.

The Jaguars played their season opener on Friday night against the Barton Bulldogs and fell behind too big and too early to recover from.

 

Augusta freshman Olivia Swanston led the team with 14 points and had three rebounds, while senior Mallory Myers put up seven points and a rebound. Senior Brianna Middleton, freshman Jaelyn Autman, and sophomore Sydney Grayden all added four points for AU.

Wrapping up the event against the Southern Wesleyan Warriors, Augusta had four players turn in double-figure points. Swanston and junior Cameryn Wilson led AU with 15 points each and Middleton and freshman Asia Harrison both carded 14 points. Middleton added 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the year.

 

The Jaguars outscored SWU by a basket in the opening period and were in a tight game heading into the last 10 minutes. The Warriors scored 27 to AU's 16 in the fourth period to win.
