CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Augusta State cruised to its first victory of the season and claimed its first tournament title under head coach Kory Thompson Tuesday during the final round of the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate at Cougar Point Golf Course.
The Lady Jaguars, who began the day with a 17-stroke lead over Elon, tied for the low round of the day with a final round of 7-over 295 and registered a 22-shot victory over UNC Greensboro. Campbell and Elon tied for third and tournament host College of Charleston was fifth.
Sophomore Christine Duschek-Hansen finished as the individual runnerup with a career-low 1-under 215 that included a final-round, 1-under 71. Junior Natalie Wille matched Duschek-Hansen for the best round of the day and tied for third at 1-over 217 (69-77-71). The finish for Wille was her second straight top-10 showing.
Sophomore Casey Kennedy tied for 12th at 8-over 224 (70-75-79) despite a 79, while senior Kirsty Rands tied for 31st at 12-over 228 (75-76-77) and junior Marit Bjerke tied for 38th at 13-over 229 (80-73-76).
UNCG's Fanny Cnops (72-71-71) edged ASU's Duschek-Hansen by just a single shot to take the individual victory at 2-under 214.
The Lady Jags return to action in two weeks when they play host to their home event, the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate, at Forest Hills Golf Club from Friday-Sunday, March 16-18.
