Lady Jags Wrap Up Season

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State combined for a 316 Saturday in the third and final round of the NCAA East Regional and finished in a tie for 20th place at the Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pa.

The Lady Jaguars, who became eligible for postseason play beginning with the 2005-06 season, were making their third NCAA Regional appearance over the span of last seven seasons.

ASU's Kory Thompson also became the first coach in the program history to lead the Lady Jags to a regional appearance in her first season as head coach. The regional also marked the final round in the ASU Blue and White for Kirsty Rands, the lone senior in the Lady Jags' regional lineup.

Marit Bjerke (78) and Casey Kennedy (78) turned in ASU's best efforts of the afternoon. Rands closed out her two seasons as a Lady Jag with a 79, while Christine Duschek-Hansen (81) and Natalie Wille (82) rounded out the ASU scores. Kennedy carded the squad's best finish, a tie for 35th.

South Carolina, ranked No. 25 in the nation by Golfstat, posted a wire-to-wire victory with a five-stroke victory over Texas A&M and Texas. Alabama and Florida tied for fourth, while Arizona State, Michigan State and Duke all tied for sixth to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Texas charged up from sixth with the low round of the day, a 6-under 282, while Michigan State made the biggest move, climbing from 12th to sixth on the strength of 5-under 283 in the final round.

Oklahoma State's Kelsey Vines and Margarita Ramos of Arizona advanced as individuals. Ramos earned a spot in the NCAA Championships with a one-hole playoff win over Michelle Koh of Campbell. Ramos notched a par on the par-4 first hole, while Koh recorded a bogey.
