Women’s Track Sets Three School Records At Susan Rouse Invitational

CENTRAL, S.C. – The Augusta University women's outdoor track and field team competed in their fifth event of the 2017 season at the Susan Rouse Invitational and broke three school records.  

 
 

Hosted by Southern Wesleyan University, the 2017 SRI featured a full set of women's and men's teams competing in Central, S.C.

 

Augusta's Kiana Kelly shattered the school record for the heptathlon and earned first place with 4,137 points. Kelly carded first in the long jump and javelin throw in the heptathlon to finish first of eight. Her high jump mark of 1.58m is also a new school record.

 

The Jags' 4x400 meter relay team posted the new record for the school. Sarah Hossack, Susan Obi, Morgan Mitchell, and Heather Hammett crossed the line in 3:59.60 for second place in the event.

 

Hammett also recorded her fifth first-place finish of the season with a top spot in 400 hurdles (1:03.55). Hammett, Edrei Yates, Samantha Kaczor, and Morgan Mitchell placed second in the 4x100 too.

 

Macy Hayes shined in the high jump and took first overall in 1.55m and Yates placed fourth in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump. Yates crossed the finish line of the 100 meter in 12.50 to take second out of 27 and she placed fourth in the 200 meter race in 25.97. Kaczor raced the 200 meter in 28.71 to take 20th.

 

22 athletes entered the shot put and AU's Ashley Leonard took fourth in 10.49m and Mallory Howard finished third of 15 in the javelin.

 

In the 400 meter, Mitchell and Hossack finished together with Mitchell taking fourth (1:00.52) and Hossack fifth (1:00.54). Four Jaguars finished in the top 15 of the 800 meter. Pricilla Cartwright led the way in eighth, Amber Palermo 11th, Susan Obi 12th, Diana Petrmichlova 15th, and Kate Boland booked 17th.

 

Boland also led AU in the 1500 meter race to take fourth in 4:55.22 and Cartwright carded eighth in 5:03.73.  

 

The Jaguars head to the Peach Belt Conference Championships April 20-22 at the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Ala.
