PEMBROKE, N.C. – Competing in their second meet of the 2017 season, the Augusta University women's outdoor track and field team placed second of nine in the Braves Classic on Friday at the Dick & Lenore Taylor Track.
Augusta finished 10 points off of second place in the team standings. Host UNC Pembroke dominated their event and won first, while Lenoir-Rhyne carded second, Augusta third, Coker fourth, Methodist fifth, Southern Virginia sixth, Meredith seventh, Francis Marion eighth, and St. Andrews ninth.
Junior Heather Hammett won the 400 meter hurdles in 1:03.69 and finished second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.12. Sophomore Kiana Kelly notched fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.90. Kelly also took third in the long jump in 5.18m.
AU rookie Kate Boland booked third in the 1500 meter run and third in the 800 meter run. Augusta took second place in the 100 meter dash from Angelica Clayton (12.43) and second in the high jump from Macy Hayes (1.55m). Edrei Yates placed third in the 100m dash with a time of 12.65m and second in the 200m in 26.51.
The Jaguar throwers got a fourth-place showing from rookie Shelby Myers in the shot put with a throw reaching 11.21 meters. Ashley Leonard finished close behind Myers and took seventh with a score of 10.65m and Simon Aalim notched 11th with a distance of 8.89m.
In the javelin throw, Mallory Howard finished fifth (28.77m) and Kelly sixth (28.36m).
Augusta heads to Mount Olive, N.C., for the Mount Olive Invitational on Friday, March 17.
