AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State kicked off its Peach Belt Conference schedule on the right foot with 3-2 victory over Lander Tuesday night at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
With the win, the Jaguars improved to 4-6 overall and 1-0 in the PBC. Lander fell to 6-4 and 0-1, respectively.
In a seesaw affair, ASU held a commanding lead in attack percentage (.213 to .122) which proved to be the only major statistical difference between the two squads.
The Jags started slow, landing only nine of 35 attacks in the first set, but stepped up the pace as Lander's offense faded in the final two sets. Overall, the Jags blasted 62 kills compared to 43 for the Bearcats.
Freshman Alex Rohlfing once again paced ASU, leading the team with 18 kills and 16 digs; Senior Jessica Hanson tallied 10 kills and a .346 attack percentage and junior Mandy Irizarry carded 13 kills and a .250 hitting percentage).
The Bearcats were led by Mallory Wasik with 12 kills and a .270 attack percentage, and Madison Kubal on the back line with 28 digs.
ASU returns to action Friday, Sept. 16 on the road at West Georgia at 7:00 p.m.
