MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Augusta Jaguars played their second Peach Belt Conference match in two days on Saturday afternoon at Montevallo and Augusta triumphed 3-1 to win the weekend at the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Ala.
The victory is the fourth in a row for the Jaguars (5-2, 2-0 PBC) after they started the weekend with a 3-1 road win at Columbus State on Friday night. They started day two strong at Montevallo (7-4, 1-1 PBC) with a 25-18 set-one win.
Freshman Kenya Stokes subbed in at 22-18 and posted two aces to help get Augusta to the early advantage. The Falcons pushed the Jaguars to extra points in set two, but fell 27-25 before winning their lone set of the day – a 25-21 win in the third to force a fourth set.
A .314 hitting percentage in set four carried the Jags past Montevallo who hit .111 as a team in the final set. Augusta totaled a .277 attack percentage for the match to the Falcons' .206.
Senior libero Cat DeSilvester had a pair of aces, 23 digs and an assist and freshman setter Sammie Baker assisted 48 shots and added nine digs and a kill.
On the attack was freshman Savanna Gonzales who had an Augusta-high 16 kills. Senior Jordan Bickett ended with 14 kills and sophomore Blair Bolton had 10. Bickett and Bolton each had four digs, while Bickett served up three aces.
Kristy Bohan led Montevallo and all players with 23 kills for Montevallo.
On Wednesday, Sept. 21 the Jaguars host a whiteout against rival USC Aiken. All fans are encouraged to wear white to the home match at 7:00 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The first 200 AU students will get free pizza from Papa John's Pizza.
