Jags Advance With 3-1 Win Over Lander In Peach Belt Tournament

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team beat the Lander Bearcats 3-1 on Friday afternoon in the first quarterfinal match of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on the campus of Georgia College. The Jaguars will face top-seeded Flagler on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2:00 p.m. for the semifinal match in the Centennial Center.




The No. 4 seed in the tournament, Augusta (18-14) faced No. 5 Lander for the third time this season to open tournament play. The Jaguars also claimed both regular-season matchups, 3-1. The Jags won 25-21, 22-25, 25-23, and 25-19.


Augusta was led by junior Savanna Gonzales's 16 kills and 18 points. First team All-PBC selection, McKenzey Beck, posted 21 assists, 16 digs, and eight kills. Beck entered the match ranked first in the league in points and kills and leads the entire nation in triple-doubles.


Rookie Chloe Allen recorded 10 kills and five assisted blocks, Natalia Gouveia served up five aces and had 15 digs. Junior Blair Bolton posted six block assists and six kills and freshman libero Holland Martin carded 28 digs and a pair of aces


Lander's Hannah Hritz had 17 kills and Sophia Perkins 22 assists.


Taking an early lead, Augusta won set one 25-21. The first set was tied at 20-all, but the Jaguars jumped ahead for the lead – highlighted by back-to-back kills from Beck. Augusta hit .265 in the opening set with 18 kills to five errors.


The Bearcats took set two 25-22 and the Jags bounced back to take another close set, 25-23, in the third. The first three sets were decided by four points or fewer and Augusta posted the largest win-margin of 25-19 to take the match.
