CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Augusta State men's and women's cross country squads wrapped up their respective 2010 seasons Saturday in the NCAA Southeast Regional at McAlpine Park.
The Lady Jaguars registered a fourth-place finish among 28 teams in the 6K race while the ASU men's squad, in its first season since 2002, took a respectable 12th out of 25 teams.
ASU sophomore Holly Keeper smashed the school record with a time of 22:09.4 and finished seventh individually. Fellow sophomore Claudia Nunez-Lopez (23:01.8) gave the Lady Jags two top-20 finishers with her 16th-place effort, while junior Lindsay Nichols was closed behind in 23rd at 23:43.9
Juniors Savannah Sutton (37th -- 24:06.5) and Angela Woodward (47th – 24:27.4) were the Lady Jags' other counters. Freshman Alicia Connelly was 58th (24:41.2) and sophomore Ivori Sneed was 123rd (26:24.6).
For her efforts, Keeper was named to the NCAA Southeast Region all-region squad at the conclusion of the race.
In the men's 10K event, junior Clay Holton paced the Jags with a 40th-place finish at 33:37.8. Freshmen Robert Blackwelder (33:43.8) and Dustin Ross (33:49.5) were close behind in 44th and 46th position, respectively.
Fellow freshmen Matthew Johnson (34:53.0) and Sean Kramer (35:26.4) were 75th and 82nd, while Shane Huckeba (35:55.9) and Adam Aldridge (36:11.3) were 94th and 102nd.
