Carpenter Inks With Jaguars

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State women's cross country head coach Adam Ward announced Tuesday the signing of Jessica Carpenter to a national letter-of-intent.

A decorated student-athlete from Northgate High School in Walnut Creek, Calif., Carpenter has posted personal bests in the 5K (19:19), the 3-mile (18:18) and at the 1,600-meter mark at 5:34. She excelled in both cross country and track and field and registered a time of 19:24 in the prestigious Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational.

"Jessica is an outstanding prospect," Ward said. "She will help us immediately and should be an outstanding student-athlete here at ASU. She comes in with a lot of speed to her credit and I think she will continue to grow during her time at ASU."

Ward led the Lady Jaguars to a runnerup finish in the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Championships and to a fourth-place showing in the NCAA Southeast Regional in Charlotte, N.C.
