YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. -- Young Harris swept Augusta State in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
With the victories, the Mountain Lions (15-15, 5-13 PBC) claimed the series sweep and outscored the Jaguars 37-13 in the three-game set. The losses dropped ASU to 10-25 overall and 3-15 in the conference.
In game one, the Jags took a 4-0 lead in the third inning when Jeff Rice was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded followed by a two-run single from Seth Foster and an RBI-single from Logan South. ASU led 5-1 going into the bottom of the sixth before the Mountain Lions rallied for eight runs and added a run in the seventh. The Jags closed within 10-8 in the eighth but couldn't get any closer.
In game two, ASU lead early 2-1 before YHC again rallied with a four-run fifth inning and five more runs in the eighth. Six pitchers saw action for the Jags, with senior righty Tyler Ross (1-2) taking the loss.
Rice paced the Jags offensively, going for a 4-for-7 in the two games at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored. Freshman catcher Justin Mee drove in three runs, while Foster, South and freshman shortstop Hunter Boose each had a pair of RBI on the afternoon.
The Jags are back in action next weekend when they visit USC Aiken for a three-game conference series. A single game on Friday, April 5 is slated for 7:00 p.m., with a doubleheader Saturday set for a 1:00 p.m., first pitch.
