Jaguars Split Doubleheader At No. 24 Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team wrapped up their final road series in Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday with a split at No. 24 Georgia College. 


Augusta moved to 16-23 and 8-12 in the league, while Georgia College improved to 26-10 and 12-7 in the PBC.


GC took game one 12-5 with 16 hits to AU's 12. Augusta senior Cole Janousek was 3-for-5 in game one with two RBI and a run and junior Jim Wagner went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI. Senior Clint Hardy and freshman Carrington Evans earned two runs apiece.


Senior Joey Stillwell made his first start of the season and went three innings, before Matthew Kuhlenberg, Cody Pugh, Noah Fairbairn, and Jordan Kelly pitched. Stillwell allowed five hits for five runs and Kuhlenberg (1-7) got the loss as he allowed two runs on one hits in an inning of work.


GC's Charlie Hecht started the game and pitched four innings, while four pitchers total made appearances for the Bobcats. Clayten Ayres highlighted the offense and went 4-for-4.


In game two, the Jaguars jumped on top 3-0, but the Bobcats tied the game 3-3 in the fourth. AU's offense produced six runs in the seventh and one in the eighth and ninth for a dominant 13-5 win.


Senior Will Thompson pitched 5.2 innings and allowed nine hits for five runs (four earned). Chase Slone pitched briefly in the sixth and Casey Lenoch turned in 3.1 innings of work. AU senior Tyler Roberts had a 4-for-6 day and freshman Jake Bogosian went 3-for-3 with three RBI in game two.


The Jaguars host the Lander Bearcats April 21 and 23 at Lake Olmstead Stadium for their final Peach Belt Conference games of the year. Augusta opens the series on Friday, April 21 with a 2:00 p.m. single game and returns on Sunday, April 23 for a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. The Jags will celebrate 2017 Senior Day on April 23.
