COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team made their final road trip of the season to Columbus State on Friday and Saturday and split a doubleheader at Burger King Stadium. Augusta (21-25) came back from a two-run deficit against CSU (29-19) in game one and outhit the Cougars 10-9 to steal an 8-3 final score. Columbus grabbed game two 9-4 with 10 hits to AU's seven.
Senior Tristan Jones (5-5) struck out three in his 6.1 innings pitched and surrendered eight hits for three runs in game one. AU senior Tyler Roberts led the team and went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI and senior Jamal Cummings was 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs – highlighted by a homer.
Caleb Kutsche (10-2) picked up his second loss of the season on the mound for Columbus and allowed eight hits for eight runs (two earned). Tyler Fichter was 3-for-4 in the leadoff spot for CSU in game one.
Senior Will Thompson started for the Jags and pitched seven innings to allow six hits for four runs (one earned) in the second game. Senior Cody Pugh got the loss and allowed three runs on one hit, while seniors Joey Stillwell and Matthew Kuhlenberg pitched late for the Jaguars.
Brandon Koehler went 7.1 innings for CSU and allowed seven hits for four runs in the win.
