FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball traveled to Emmanuel College on Wednesday afternoon and fell 11-5 in the single non-conference game.
Augusta (17-26) and Emmanuel (22-24) split the regular-season meetings, after the Jaguars beat the Lions 4-3 on Feb. 19 in Augusta, Ga.
Emmanuel scored first, but the Jaguars tied the game at 1-1 when sophomore Mason Robertson smacked an RBI single to bring home freshman Garet Suiter. The Lions launched a two-run homer in the third to retake the lead, but Augusta wasn't done.
Jaguar freshman Brian Smith doubled to right-center field and drove in sophomore Trent Maddox after he reached on a single in the fourth inning. Down 3-2, Augusta tied the game again on an RBI groundball off the bat of freshman Beau Hanna. Maddox scored on the play and also came home on a passed ball in the fifth to give Augusta the lead. The Lions homered again for a solo run in the sixth and carded six runs in the seventh to go on and win 11-5.
Maddox was 2-for-4 with two scored runs, while Robertson and sophomore Skylor Murphy added two hits as well for Augusta.
Augusta freshman Tripp Church started his seventh game of the season and logged six innings of action. Church allowed eight hits for four runs, before freshman Chase Horton, senior Christian Griffin, and freshman Alex Colon closed it out from the bullpen. Horton allowed four on two hits, Griffin (2-7) two runs on two hits, and Colon one run on one hit.
The Jags play at Georgia College in Milledgeville, Ga., for their final Peach Belt Conference series of the season April 19-20.
