Augusta, GA --- Augusta State University’s men’s basketball team defeated Savannah State 87-67 Saturday night at the ASU Athletic Complex. The win lifts the Jaguars to 5-2 on the season, while Savannah State falls to 0-8 overall.
Festus Hawkins led the Jaguars with 26 points and 12 rebounds. The 6-11 center shot nine of 17 from the floor and 8 of 10 from the free throw line. He also added three blocks and two assists.
T.J. Ott also recorded a double-double for the Jaguars, tallying 16 points and 14 rebounds on the night. Marcus Gradney added 13 points and Jayme Johnson had 10 to close out ASU’s double-figure scorers.
Savannah State was led by Toyian Williams with 23 points. Alvin Payton added 18 and Maurice Bell had 14 in the losing effort.
The Jaguars took a commanding 44-21 lead into halftime and never looked back. ASU shot 44 percent from the floor, while the Tigers shot 47 percent. Savannah State was an incredible 61 percent from three-point range, including hitting 8 of 10 in the second half and 11 of 18 for the game.
ASU dominated the boards throughout the game, finishing with 47 rebounds to only 29 for the Tigers.
The Jaguars will be in action again Monday, December 18 as they travel to Life University for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
