North Florida Notches Road Sweep

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- North Florida picked up a pair of key road wins over Augusta State Wednesday in Christenberry Fieldhouse on Senior Night.

The UNF men shot an even 50 percent for the game and outrebounded Augusta State 35-23 en route to a 79-69 victory. Michael Drayton led the Ospreys with 22 points, including five three-pointers, while Donny Lotz posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Gary Satterwhite added 11 points. UNF connected on nine three-pointers in the contest, compared to only two for Augusta State.

Senior forward David Siebrands tallied a team-high 22 points and six rebounds for ASU. Junior forward Patrick Curran chipped in 18 points and Jermale Wilkerson posted 12 points and five assists off the bench.

UNF improves to 13-13 overall and 10-8 in Peach Belt play. The Jaguars fall to 16-10 overall and 12-6 in the PBC.

A Siebrands' layup tied the game at 43-all with 17:51 remaining in the second half, only to have the Ospreys put together an 18-7 run over a span of 7:40 that ASU never recovered from. Drayton's three-pointer at the 10:11 mark gave UNF a 61-50 advantage, its biggest lead of the night.

The Jags got as close as four on a Wilkerson three-point play with 7:18 left, only to have the visitors rattle off a 7-1 spurt to push their lead back to double digits. ASU was then forced to foul, and UNF scored its last 13 points of the game from the foul line, connecting on 13-of-16 attempts.

In the women's contest, reigning Peach Belt Conference Player-of-the-Week Skye Barber poured in a game-high 21 points to lead North Florida to a 72-61 victory over Augusta State.

Mikel Taylor and Natalie Hicks scored 18 and 13 points, respectively for the Lady Ospreys. Junior guard Ernesia Wideman paced ASU with 18 points. Shundra Johnson chipped in 12 off the bench and Arijana Sijercic totaled 11 points and five assists.

The victory moves UNF to 16-10 overall and 11-7 in PBC play. The Lady Jags drop to 18-8 and 12-6.

A 13-2 run late in the first half opened up a double-digit lead for UNF. Taylor's trey at the 4:54 mark gave the Lady Ospreys a 12-point lead, before ASU responded, scoring 10 of the final 14 points of the half to cut its deficit to 38-32 at the break.

UNF led 53-44 with 8:48 remaining in in the game before ASU battled back, tying the game at 54-all on a Sijercic layup with 4:34 to play. Just as quickly, the Lady Ospreys answered with a 7-0 spurt over the next 1:03 to pull away, and ASU never got within four the rest of the way.

ASU closes out its regular season Saturday when the men's and women's squad travel to Aiken, S.C. to take on the Pacers in a PBC doubleheader. The women's contest is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m., with the men to follow at 7:30 p.m.
