AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State's Devon Wright-Nelson was named to the Peach Belt Conference's preseason all-conference team Tuesday, according to an announcement from the conference's headquarters in Martinez, Ga. The players were selected by a vote of the league's head coaches
A 6-5 sophomore forward from Washington, D.C., Wright-Nelson became the first freshman in school history in 2011-12 to lead the Jaguars in both scoring and rebounding. He averaged 14.2 ppg., and 7.8 rpg., and shot 50.0 percent from the field en route to winning PBC Freshman of the Year honors. He tallied four double-doubles and ranked sixth in the league in rebounding and 15th in scoring.
He scored a career-high 32 points in the Jags' regular-season finale at Armstrong Atlantic State and registered a 22-point, 14-rebound effort in a PBC Tournament quarterfinal victory over Georgia College in Columbus, Ga.
Wright-Nelson is one of four returning starters from last season's 17-11 squad. The Jags tip off their 2012-13 campaign when they host Bowie State on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
