ASU Gains One Spot At Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -- Augusta State posted a 299 Saturday in the second round of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club.

The Jaguars, ranked No. 8 in the Golfweek national preseason poll, gained one spot on the 15-team field, moving up to 11th place.

Junior Mitch Krywulycz enjoyed ASU's best round of the day, signing for a two-over 72. Senior Jake Amos booked a 73 and junior Henrik Norlander managed a 75. Junior Carter Newman and sophomore Taylor Floyd turned in a 79 and 80, respectively. Amos leads the Jags with a tie for 35th.

First-round leader Northwestern registered a second round of 315 to drop to 12th place while Arizona State moved to the top of the leaderboard with a four-over 284. The Sun Devils are four shots clear of Texas, while Oklahoma State and Stanford are tied for third and six shots back. Southern Cal rounds out the top five, eight shots off the pace.

Florida's Max Kieffer and Florida State's Seath Lauer are tied for the lead at 1-under 139. Georgia's Brian Carter and Arizona State's Tristan Bierenbroodspot are a shot back and tied for third at even-par 140.

The venue for the tournament, hosted by the University of Illinois, is located just outside of Chicago at Olympia Fields' North Course, a 7,157-yard, par-70 layout. Olympia Fields hosted the 2003 U.S. Open, won by Jim Furyk.

The Jags will be paired with San Diego State and Indiana for Sunday's third and final round. Newman will lead off for ASU at 9:00 a.m. Eastern, followed by Krywulycz at 9:08, Norlander at 9:16, Floyd at 9:24 and Amos at 9:32.

The tourney features one of the top fields of any tournament in the country. Seven of the top 10 and 12 of the top 30 teams, according to Golfweek, along with 14 of the top 30 individuals in the country, are in the field.
