HIGH POINT, N.C. - The GRU Augusta Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field teams started off their Spring Break with a big weekend of competition at High Point University's Vertklasse Meeting.
This meet marked the last team competition before the Jags travel to Rome, Ga., to compete in the Peach Belt Conference Championships for the second time since the start of the program.
The weekend proved to be a success for the Jags as they walked away with many personal records and conference qualifying marks. Returning 2013 NCAA qualifier, Dustin Ross was competitive in heat one of the men's 1500m run. Ross's time of 3:56.03 placed him ninth overall out of the 82 athletes that contested the event. In the men's 10,000m race, Shane Huckeba finished fourth, crossing the line in 32:54.86. Both Austin Hendricks and Roderick Bolden performed well in the throwing events for the Jags. Hendricks placed first in flight one of the men's shot put with a throw of 11.78m and Bolden's discus throw of 37.80m placed him fourth in flight two of the event.

Pettway finished seventh overall in the women's 400m participation heats, making her way around the track in 60.22 seconds. Recording a time of 12:27.92. Ryffe finished sixth in the women's 3,000m steeplechase. GRU's student-athletes were not the only ones representing the university well on the track in High Point.
Former college standouts and now GRU assistant coaches, Pardon Ndhlovu and Olimpia Nowak both laced up their spikes for the first time this season and competed unattached in the meet. Pardon, also known as "Coach P., competed in the men's 10,000m race. Running away from the rest of the field, he crossed the line first in a time of 30:57.98. In the women's 100m hurdles, Nowak wasted no time finding her stride as she qualified for the finals and finished sixth overall with a time of 14.64 seconds.
Rounding into form right on time, the Jags will continue to make final preparations over the next two weeks before testing themselves against the rest of the Peach Belt Conference. The championships will be hosted by Shorter University in Rome, Ga., and are scheduled to take place April 17-19.
