ATLANTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's outdoor track & field team traveled to Atlanta, Ga. this weekend to compete in this year's Emory Invitational, hosted by Emory University. Augusta took 12th out of 27 teams with 28 points. Tennessee Wesleyan won the meet with 78 points. They were followed by Taylor in second (77.5 points) and Albany State in third (65.50 points).
The Jaguars were led by senior Tommy Woods who started off the meet by taking 11th in the javelin throw with a toss of 41.06m. Freshman Jason Brown also recorded an 11th place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.85m. Junior Leke Adelye rounded out the field portion by securing points for the Jaguars with a seventh place finish in the triple jump with a total distance of 13.48m.
The Jaguars also posted several top-five finishes podium placements. The 4x800 relay team of Josh DePeaza, Justice Ogbe, Noah Whitacre, and Kai Brickey took home third, with a time of 8:11.66. The 4x100 team of sophomores Joshua Hewing, Sean McCreary, and Zatrick Pearce, as well as Junior Andre Walker, took home fifth with a time of 42.51. The 4x400 team made up by Hewing, Wright, Pearce, Allen also recorded a 10th place finish in 3:26.76.
It was Freshman Hans Troyer that took home Augusta's top finish with a second-place finish in the steeplechase in 9:53.52. Fellow freshman Ryan Gallagher also recorded a top-10 finish with a fourth place showing in the 5000m in 16:08.74. He was followed closely by fellow Jaguar, freshman Chirs Shelp, in sixth with a time of 16:17.17.
The Jaguars will compete next weekend, March 29-30, where they will travel to Mount Olive, N.C. for the Trojan challenge.
