OAKWOOD, Ga. – The Augusta University men's cross country team raced the NCAA Southeast Regional Saturday morning on the campus of the University of North Georgia and finished in third place to advance to the NCAA Championships for the third time in school history and the second in the last two season.
Augusta took third out of 21 teams with 98 points in the 10K race. Queens won the race with 32 points and Mount Olive placed runner up with 73. After losing to UNC Pembroke by four points in the Peach Belt Conference Championship, Augusta dominated the Braves to seal third place and continue its season. The top three teams from each regional meet automatically advanced to the championship finals for a total of 24 teams. The top two individuals not on a qualifying team also advanced for a total of 16.
Augusta entered the race ranked fourth in the region, while finishing top three all season long. AU had two in the top 10 with sophomore Hunter Kimball taking sixth in 32:01.91 and senior Noah Hulett seventh in 32:04.94. Jags sophomore Jacob Poston placed 18th with a time of 32:46.03 and sophomore Chandler Kennedy 22nd in 33:02.40. Also on the course for the Jaguars: Hans Troyer (45th, 34:02.45), Josh Seiden (60th, 34:27.91), and Rakeem Littles (70th, 34:51.90).
AU's Kimball, Hulett, Poston, and Kennedy were all named All-Region for finishing in the top 25 individually.
This the third time the Jags have made it to the NCAA Championships. The team made it in 2017 and 2013 and Augusta's Jaiden Brandt (2012) and Nick Del Guercio (2015) have represented the team as individuals. All three trips have come under head coach Adam Ward.
The NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships take place on Saturday, Dec. 1 in Slippery Rock, Pa., at the 2018 NCAA Fall Festival.
