AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team and head coach Melissa Brocato have announced the program's four-member early signing class for the 2018 season. The Jaguars gained four freshmen in Cassie Blizzard, Bella Fernandez, Lindsey Lee, and Regan Norfleet. All four signed National Letters (NLI) of Intent during the early signing period (Nov. 9-16) and are set to join the team.
Among the new quartet of signees are three infielders and a right handed pitcher - all from Georgia.
"These ladies are fierce competitors and come from programs with strong softball traditions," Brocato said. "On the field, all of these girls pose an offensive threat, as well as, play multiple positions. They are excellent in the classroom and are true representatives of what the word 'student-athlete' is all about."
Name: Cassie Blizzard
Hometown: Appling, Ga.
Previous School: Harlem High School
Cassie Blizzard is a local student-athlete at Harlem High School in Harlem, Ga. Blizzard was named first team All-Region and second team All-State in 2016 for HHS and second team All-Region in 2015 and 2014. She helped guide the team to a 2016 Class AA State Championship and four-straight regional championships. Blizzard plans on pursuing a nursing degree.
Name: Bella Fernandez
Hometown: Elberton, Ga.
Previous School: Elbert County High School
Bella Fernandez will graduate from Elbert County High School in Elberton, Ga., where she lettered in softball for all four years. Fernandez notched three-straight All-Region honors during her time in the infield at ECHS. Also a letterwinner in basketball, Fernandez received the Spanish Academic Excellence Award and plans on studying physical therapy.
Name: Lindsey Lee
Hometown: Hoschton, Ga.
Previous School: Mill Creek High School
Lindsey Lee is a right handed pitcher and outfielder from Hoschton Ga., where she has attended Mill Creek High School for four years. Lee helped her team win a 2016 7A Region Championship and a 2015 7A State Championship. Her team reached the Sweet 16 in 2014. Lee pitched two perfect games during her three years of high school softball and will study sports medicine at Augusta University.
Name: Regan Norfleet
Hometown: Vidalia, Ga.
Previous School: Vidalia Comprehensive High School
Regan Norfleet is from Vidalia, Ga., and attends Vidalia Comprehensive High School where has lettered in softball and basketball for all four years. An honor roll student and member of the Beta Club, Norfleet was named first team All-Region for three years and helped her team with back-to-back region championships. Her team was a state finalist for two straight years in the GHSA. She will study education at AU.
