AUGUSTA, Ga. – It was a battle of AU versus AU on Sunday afternoon as the Augusta University softball team took on the Anderson University Trojans for a non-conference doubleheader. Anderson came away with a 2-0 win in the first meeting and survived a 5-4 win in game two at Jaguar Field.
Augusta (2-6) outhit Anderson (8-0) 4-3 in game one and matched six hits in game two, but the Trojans took away a pair of wins.
Senior Kristen Mills (1-2) pitched a complete game and only surrendered three hits for two runs in the first meeting. Mills struck out five of her 29 batters faced. Juniors Lindsey Stokes and Carolyn Edwards each had a hit as did senior Brianna Dickens and sophomore Alex Head for Augusta.
The Trojans tallied two early runs in game one and held on for a 2-0 final. In the second meeting, each team scored a run in the first inning. After the Trojans took a three run lead in the third, Augusta tied it with a pair in the fifth.
The Jags gave up a run in the sixth and seventh and fell 5-4. Sophomore Kelsea Hunter was 3-3 at the plate for Augusta and scored twice. Edwards went 1-3 with an RBI and Head 1-2 with a run to highlight the offense.
The Jags play at Erskine College in Due West, S.C., on Tuesday, Feb. 14 for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader on Valentine's Day.
