Jags Come Up Short At West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team traveled to Carrollton, Ga. and dropped a pair of non-conference games against the West Georgia Wolves at University Field.  


Augusta (14-28) lost a close 7-5 game to West Georgia (21-20), before falling 12-2 in the second.


AU heads to UNC Pembroke for a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 14 at 12:00 p.m. in Pembroke, N.C. The Jaguars host 2018 Senior Day on Sunday, April 15 during the 1:00 p.m. PBC doubleheader against the Flagler Saints at Jaguar Field. The games mark the final regular-season home games for AU this season.



The Jaguars put up nine hits against the Wolves and took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Wolves scored late and often with three in fourth and sixth to win by two runs. AU stranded 10 runners on base in the first game of the day.


Augusta seniors Ashley Boyd, Alexis Schlein and sophomore Lydia Hausman each had two hits, while seniors Carolyn Edwards, Lindsey Stokes and freshman Bella Fernandez put up one.  


Sophomore Morgan Hunter (9-14) hurled her 11th complete game of the season for Augusta. She struck out three, but surrendered seven runs on 12 hits.



West Georgia overtook game two with 12 hits to win 12-2. Augusta plated its two runs in the fourth inning, when Schelin singled to score Boyd and Fernandez hit a sacrifice fly to score Hausman.


Sophomore Jada Jackson (2-5) took the loss for the Jags in her 5.1 innings of work and at the plate Hausman picked up two more hits to lead the team.
